Carry drinking water and stay hydrated.  Wind and sun can cause
dehydration, leading (in extreme cases) to unconsciousness.  And the
symptoms are very subtle, usually manifesting as unusual fatigue.
Hard to distinguish from  normal tiredness caused by long hours and
vibration.  Avoid caffeine beverages.  They are diuretics.

I envy you the Pac Coast Highway part of the trip.  It's absolutely
gorgeous.
