Dennis is going to ask you these questions so be prepared.
Do you know what you are doing? What level of mechanical ability do
you have? How did you reassemble the timing chain and how did you
time it?

Hi, I need advice. I recently aquired a dead 85' 650 Nighthawk. The
former owner ran the engine and suspected top end damage due to loss
of oil. I disassembled the engine down to the top of the crankcase and
found only a bit of scaring on one of the cam journals. I reassembled
it and was able to turn the engine over by hand to set the timing
(socket wrench on the timing bolt). I then reinstalled the engine in
the frame and tried to start it. The engine turned over but would not
start. A short time later when I tried to start it again the engine
would turn over on 1 revolution before it became impossible to turn it
over, even by hand. I then put a wrench on the timing bolt and tried
to turn it over in the other direction and again, it would turn only 1
revolution. I need advice, anyone have this happen to them or does
anyone know what needs to be done?
Thanks.
