I have now 'dewinterised' 6 bikes this past week. I put them away using different winterisation methods to see if there was any difference. One '85 NH650 I used seafoam , shut off the gas and that's about it I think. It started and ran fine. I dismantled and cleaned the carbs last summer. A second '85 650 I bought had not run in 6 months and then only 9 miles at all last year. This bike has never had the carbs removed or cleaned from the bike - ever, and the previous owner never used any stabiliser, that's nothing, no seafoam or anything. It took a new battery and about 5 minutes of trying but it started and when warmed up settled down to a nice idles and runs fine. two 700 S, an '84 and an '86, I used seafoam, and then ran the carbs dry after turning off the gas, even draining the bowls and leaving the drain screws open for about half an hour. The two started easily and ran fine. Dennis told me this is how he does it - (without the seafoam). My '02 750 I used seafoam but did nothing else and it started and rode fine. All five bikes ran and idled fine after a 30 mile ride. It just takes a while to get to do 30 miles on each one. My 450 NH needed to have the carbs removed and cleaned before it would run. It hadn't been run since last spring.

Snake oil is fine but dry is still best. I drain mine at the end of the season.

Yeah see that's just it, I DID use Seafoam before i put the bike up for the winter!! I used a whole can in a full tank of gas. Even rode it around a bit. So is that it? the fuel stabilizer is supposed to keep them from sticking!?! Should I have used 2 cans?

Anybody know what causes floats to stick and how to keep it from happening? It seems every spring when I start the bike for the first time, I have gasoline leaking big time and I was told that it was the floats sticking. A friend told me to tap the bottom of the carburetor with a small tool to unstick them. But I wanna know
the technical way to unstick them. If there is one. Thanks.
