Although all-cotton t-shirts are very soft, that softness also depends on how hard your water is. Soft cotton washcloths, for instance, will become hard and scratchy in hard water. Soak an old t-shirt in a solution of vinegar and water for about an hr and it will dissolve the minerals, leaving it soft to use on your windshield. I use the same stuff I use to restore plastic headlight lenses: Meguiar's, specifically for that purpose. Works on bike windshields also. You do have to make sure that there is no dirt present, because while tshirts are soft, they have no ability to absorb any particles that might otherwise scratch your windshield. I would, therefore, recommend the same process of softening on a terry cloth towel, because there are plenty of spaces to hold particles of dirt without scratching. I have also restored scratched windshields and visors for helmets with my lambswool bonnet for machine buffing dull finishes to a fine lustre. Won't take out deep gouges, though.

Never use paper towels...they will scratch. Acrylic is very sensitive to scratching. I use automotive glass cleaner and special cloths that I got from the auto parts store. Any very fine cotton cloth will do as well. ________________________________ From: Icarus <[email protected]> To: Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers! <[email protected]> Sent: Sun, April 4, 2010 7:02:09 PM Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] cleaning wind shield?? What is the best way to get bug-salad off of your acrylic? I have heard that paper towels and Windex (ammonia) are no-nos. Is this true? If so, what is the best way to clean windshields... and helmet visors for that matter? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
