Why would you want to?  Is there some specific type of crud you're
trying to remove?

Oven cleaner works on rubber boot marks.  (Cover any painted parts
before use).  Ditto lighter fluid or mineral spirits (both contain
naptha and are flammable.  Use sparingly on cold pipes only!).

Light rust?  Super fine grade (#0000) bronze wool, available at
http://www.mcmaster.com/#
