I removed the end baffle from the exahust on my 1984 700s and raised the carb needles with a No. 006 (1/16") oring. The result is a really cool tone and a completly different power curve. The richer mixture allowed me to put my K&N filter back in (with the Dennis Hammeral velocity cone).
With the end baffle removed the end of the exhaust looks unfinished, so I am having a local machine shop make me an alluminum insert ring where the four rivets are to give the exhaust a finished / custom look. I will post a picture when I get them on the bike. The machinist indicated it would be less expensive if he was able to make more than just one pair. If you have a 700s, and want a little more sound out of your exhaust then drill out the rivets in the end of your exhaust squirt some blaster on the seam and pull on the center with a pair of pliers. If you like the sound and new power curve, but want a finished look to the exhaust let me know. If you dont like the sound and performance changes then pop rivet the baffle back on. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
