Welcome to the group. The "reserve" setting is really just the bottom couple inches of your tank. It's possible you sucked up some sludge when you switched to reserve if there was any in the tank. Might need to clean the carbs again, and the tank, possibly an inline fuel filter. The joy of 27yr old bikes...
