If that gasket has hardened over the decades and is no longer springy, or
simply not seated properly then it needs replacing. No short cuts
unfortunately, except maybe thicker fuel? nah... If you don't have a heat
gun anymore, and regular household hair dryer works too, it just takes
longer.
