I will agree with you, Jay, and I used to work on and own the lowly Beetle, the
only air cooled car to make a production run of over 70 years.  Very
inexpensive
to own, run, and even inexpensive to race...  And if you rebuild the engine
right, it will last longer and put out more than the factory one.
Anyone ever put a Weber or two on a Nighthawk?

Hey Jay,

I was curious what kind of tach did you replace it with? was a the stock one or
something else? cause mine has never worked and I've been debating what to do
about it.  I have a '93.

Today, my 19 year old "bargain bike" hit this major milestone, and did it, as
usual with strong performance and 59 MPG on our Sunday club ride.  In the 74K
miles I've had it, other than regular maintenance parts, it's needed only a
starter rebuild, a replacement petcock, a valve cover gasket and, of course, a
tach.  Next month, we will join a fleet of Goldwings and expensive cruisers on
a
2K jaunt up to the "Dragon" in North Carolina, which will be a good start
toward
our next milestone, 150K miles.
