I will make that concession. If you, in fact, inhabit a marine vessel, and you do, in fact, actually have "hatches" that you can "batten" then you are allowed to use said phrase. However you are only allowed to use said phrase when discussing those specific hatches.
Everyone else must use the phrase "boarded up" or "taped up" the windows but only if those actions were actually performed.
