Myths abound about them, but the reality is, if you ride thru a swarm of them, you'll have a gooey mess all over your bike and you. Not to mention the ones squashed on the highway by car traffic causing a potential traction problem for motorcycles.
When I was driving a rig, I had stop every couple hours and scrape the big pieces off the windshield with an ice scraper, then scrub what remained with Windex and a stiff brush before I could see thru the windshield again. Nasty stuff.
