There are two springs attached to the long skinny brake rod -- the brake pedal return spring is at the front, just behind the pedal you took off. The other is the brake rod return spring at the back, near the adjusting nut.
I think there's a brake switch return spring under the seat, too, but I can't swear to it. It's been awhile since I messed with it, and I'm not near the bike at the moment. You didn't fool with the shoes, did ya?
