Heres the pics: https://picasaweb.google.com/sandpvrr/1982GoldWingGeorgeMacLeod31211?authkey=Gv1sRgCP25qIf0pq_zwAE&feat=directlink The good news: it started. The bad news- its not much better cosmetically than my 82 Nighthawk. The chrome has some pings, dings and rust - couple dents - the mufflers are badly blued on one side (maybe both) the add on Windjammer fairing has some small cosmetic issues (see pics) the left side saddlebag top was cracked badly and repaired. Someone added additional spot lights (extremely tacky but functional) and additional red rear running lights (less tacky but the wiring is exposed) I am guessing this was sold as a 'Naked Wing' as Paul's is - but someone added the fairing and bags from another source. It began to smoke from the engine after it started - I'm guessing it was a small coolant leak since it didn't go away completely but did lessen as it appeared to burn off. One specific problem - when I shifted up between I think third and fourth the transmission got into a second 'false neutral' where I was able to let the clutch out completely and the bike never moved. Is this a GL problem or does this one have some sort of broken gear. I wasn't able to ride it - or even take it out of the garage owing to snow and mud - but I'm thinking I'll pass on this one with the price as is. If I can talk the guy down I'd think about it - but I would rather have something newer and that I felt a little more confident on footing wise. Thoughts?? -Joey On Sat, Mar 12, 2011 at 11:37 AM, Paul <[email protected]> wrote: > *Keep us posted Joey.* > * > * > *You're right that it was the 1200 Wings that were better known for the > failing stators due to wiring that overheated.
