I'd suggest keep the 550 and ride it while you're working on the 750
and spread your costs over time.  I agree most of the defects you
describe are cosmetic.

An advantage of the 750 is that it was manufactured in greater numbers
and over a longer period of time, '99-03, so parts are interchangeable
and more readily available than the 550, which was only produced for
one model year, if I remember correctly.

If it runs good, it's a bargain at $800.  Typical prices for that
model are more in the $1,500-2000 range, higher in some parts of the
country.

It weighs about 500 lbs. wet, by the way.
