Yeah, I'm thinking a cruiser-type like a Shadow, or a touring-specific like the
new NT700's are a better cross-country option, but I've got this one, and I
suddenly have the time and ability to do a cross-country trip, so I'm
capitalizing on it.
Still not sure if carrying extra gas is all that smart in terms of safety, but
having done the cross-country trip in a car, there can be some seriously long
stretches without gas, and extreme prices and limited hours at the few places
that do have it...

I dunno - the whole idea of carrying extra gas - anywhere - seems like
a bad idea to me.
The existing tank is protected against a collision - the very
design of the bike lends itself to that.
Honda marketed these bikes as a short range vehicle - not
touring bikes - I can speak from experience that 375 miles in a day on
a 450 is grueling and harsh. Granted, that isn't a 750 but - the
riding position is mostly the same (from what I'm told).
This is one of the reasons I went to a larger bike - so I can
be more comfortable on longer rides.
Just a thought...

Might not be a bad idea to change the front or rear sprocket for better fuel

Hmmmm...
You're going to have to stop to put the extra gas in it anyway, and 160
miles is just a bit shy of three hours at a steady 60mph; might as well just
buy it fresh and avoid the issue?
Only reason I've ever carried extra fuel on a trip with me is when I head
north to Chicago, where gas is stupidly expensive. I fill two five gallon
cans and put them in my car's trunk, then use the cheap-cheap SC gas in
Chicago rather than filling up at city prices. Saves me a good $10-15 in gas
over the trip.

Howdy,
So I'm planning a cross-country trip on my '92 750. Stock tank is about 4
gallons, which is about 160 miles max or so, which isn't very far for a
4,000 mile trip.
I'm curious if anyone here has any experience carrying extra gas along with
them.
What did you use?
Would you do it again?
How much could you carry?
How safe was the extra gas in the hot summer sunlight on a full-day ride?
Thanks!
