True. It's possibly different issue not related to the K&N install.
I'd check plugs to see if they're wet with gas. Then dipstick for indication that the level its higher than normal and smell-test dipstick for gas odor. If either is positive, you could damage engine internals if you run it that way. I'd then change oil and filter, clean the plugs, then let the bike sit overnite, with petcock set to whatever position you normally set it. Repeat the tests. If plugs are wet again, and gas smell on dipstick is still strong, it points to a malfunctioning petcock diaphragm. Probly a pinhole or a tear or wear around the metal plunger/valve. You may need to examine it under a magnifying glass, even. Remedy is a rebuild kit, thorough cleaning of the petcock assembly, including filter screens, and another oil/filter change. Have you visually inspected the K&N since you installed it? I'd do that as well as, checking for raw gas saturation and raw gas in the airbox as well as the crankcase vent (underneath the airbox). All above are symptoms of a faulty petcock.
