Another possibility, also petcock-related but easier to find and fix: When I bought my first NH, fuel was sweating or weeping, not dripping or flowing, from around the big nut that connects the petcock to the threaded fitting on the bottom of the gas tank. I disassembled it to find the pencil-shaped nylon fuel filter twisted and wadded up inside the threaded fitting.
Apparently the previous owner had attempted to "fix" the leak by repeatedly tightening the big nut. In the process he twisted the petcock back and forth so many times, it chewed the bottom of the filter away from its o-ringed seat in the throat of the petcock. Fix was to replace the filter and o-ring. I mention all this because I was tracking down a strong gas smell too and could find no obvious leaks or drips. I finally found the problem by feeling around all the fuel-related hoses/fittings with my fingers until I found a "wet" one. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
