Here in BC (all of canada I think) both are mandatory. I grew up
riding 3 wheel atv's bear headed and can see the appeal of no helmet.
Would I in traffic? Nope, I have a few friends that have had head
injuries and they're just not the same. However... on a windy lane
dappled sun coming through the trees and a speed limit low enough
they I'm well inside my skill level to keep the damn thing
upright.... Ya it'd be cool to ride without it... and I just might
one day in the right situation. As was said with the possible
exceptions of large flying bugs with or without doesn't affect my
ability to ride the bike. So it should be My choice, Proper footwear
however does affect and should be mandatory... Actualy I think it is.
You can't drive a car here without "proper footwear" and flipflops
are NOT :o) god I hate those things. Can we petition for an outright
ban? maybe trade the helmet laws for flipflop laws???
Seatbelts, should be mandatory for under 19 (legal age here) and all
front seat occupants. When I was 16 and rules were for other people I
had a 71 Mustang. I wouldn't move the car till the front passenger
had their belt on. In my 69 fairlane it was the same thing, at least
buckle the lap and submarine belts or the car doesn't move. If the
rear passengers wanted to slide around and hit my cage up to them.
Most when faced with caged car and 5pt harnesses got into belts quickly.
I'd had my licence about a month when my g/f landed in my lap in a
cloverleaf. Thus the rule.
