It depends on why they are squealing. Do your brake have 'squeak tabs"? This is a metal tab coming off the pad's backing plate that will start rubbing on the rotor once the pad has worn down to the 'replace me' level. See this image I just found with a quick search: [image: Brake Pads with metal warning sensor.jpg] (found here: http://www.denlorstools.com/autoblog/2010/11/disc-brake-service-reduce-brake-pad-squeal/ )
The second reason (and these are in no particular order) that brakes can squeak is because the pad itself vibrates within the caliper. To fix this, remove the pad and apply anti-squeal to all the metal parts of the pad that contact the caliper or slides. The product can be purchased for a few bucks in either aerosol (my preferred method), or as a single-use packet like ketchup. Finally, the third reason they squeal is the bad one - if you're left with no more friction material on the pads, and you've got the backing plate rubbing on the rotor. It doesn't sound like this is the case for you. So, provided you still have serviceable pads, and they aren't worn down to the squeaker, you'll just need to remove and apply anti-squeal to the back of the pads. - JO On Wed, Jul 27, 2011 at 12:05 PM, gabe guindon <[email protected]> wrote: > Hey fellas > > My 84 650SC's front brake is pretty squeaky.
