Hello to all Nighthawk Lovers. I am going to buy my first motorcycle and i found that Honda Nighthawk is the closest to what i want through what i can afford. I am a student, so money is the biggest factor for me and i'm looking through used motorcycles. Today i found a good deal on the craigslist: http://tucson.craigslist.org/mcy/2530725806.html - Nighthawk 750, 1995 year, 47k mileage for 1000$. But when i went to look at it, my inspiration reduced. It looks like owner doesn't care properly about it. I didn't ride it, just looked, checked. It starts good, works smoothly, good response on axcel., didn't saw smoke from exhaust on high rpm. But looks dirty, broken turn lights, all plastic parts and paint shows that it had kept long time on Arizona sun, tires used much, front shock has small leak.
On the one hand, I like this model of motorcycle, it is a good price (since i can't afford something more than 2000$ ), good year for the price, starts well, sounds ok. But on the other hand, there is big mileage and i'm afraid of hidden problems with engine and transmission because it probably didn't maintained carefully. It looks not so attractive, but i do not care much about cosmetic problems, i can fix it easily. I'm an engineer and i'm ok with mechanic work, i'm ready rebuilt an engine, if it necessary, but i'm afraid that to buy this Nighthawk and rebuilt it could be more expensive than to buy motorcycle in better condition. What can You advice me? If i'll look at it one more time, where should i pay attention, how can i check that engine is not going to die?
