Okay, so Surf may just win the prize. My plungers were still showing, about an eighth of an inch. Squirted a little PB on them (not peanut butter, mind) then had to depress them by hand, imperfectly. Still idling at about 1100, but not noticing a higher idle on leans any more.
Guess I'll pull the cable and the plungers, maybe even replace the cable; it's the only one I haven't yet replaced. Thanks folks, I'll keep you all informed!
