Symptoms of lean condition are: Hard to start takes a long time to warm up popping on deceleration lack of power when you rev the bike will hang a bit before it lowers to the correct idle rpm
I think that most nighthawks need about 3 turns out on the pilot screws, and the washer mod at a minimum. This is what I did to my bike: Final configuration of my 1992 NH750: Hodge exhaust mod 5x 1/4 in holes ( eventually was just swiss cheesed ) Uni filter #115 main jets standard #38 slow jets adjustable needle on 3rd clip position ( same length as stock needle with 1x 1/32 #4 washer) 3 1/8 turns out on pilot jet screws (750 ft above sea level est.) you could spend $100 for a dynojet or Factory Pro jet kit, or just order the jets and use a washer to shim the stock needle.
