Thank you very much for the helpful links (@hawaii sean: and empathy :-) ), I've contacted a few people who I think will be able to help me get a new lever. @surfswab: I wouldn't want to do that either, it's not like it's such an expensive part that I'm willing to risk my safety riding with a weakened brake handle...
