That 919, I never really looked at them before. Looks like a Nighthawk on
steroids, and that's very tempting. I really like it, however I don't think
that's the comfort I am looking for now.

You might also want to look at a Honda 919, basically its a larger newer
version of a nighthawk, only sportier. Better brakes, monoshock, water
cooled, radial tires, replacement bulb headlight. They are powerful though,
since they have a de-tuned CBR900 engine.

Not the same bike at all. The sabre was a super standard, it came in a 750
or an 1100 V4, it was a high end bike, shaft drive, fuel gauge, gear
indicator. What you rode was a V-twin shadow, the sabre part was some
marketing guys idea.

The Shadow Sabre that I rode today was a 2007, and did not look anything
like this. It looks like it would have a better ride. Here is the one I
rode.

I can attest that our Nighthawks are also terrible on dirt roads. That was

Ok so you want comfort and you like cruisers. Then you probably couldn't go
wrong with a shadow, they are popular and cheap on the used market. My 75
year old grand father had a full dresser shadow and spent a month touring
the north-east and canada with it his only complaint was that it was bad on
dirt roads, and a bit heavy because he had bad knees. Paul should be able to
tell you about the magna. The people I've met with them love them.

My back does bother me some, but I do have highway pegs on my NH and they
feel good. But seems on the NH I pick up every bump in the road. And the
pot hole are killers. Seems there are a lot in Iowa and Nebraska. And my
butt really hurts after 40 minutes. I thought the heavier bikes would have
better suspensions. I recently was told really fat tires you the best ride.
But I don't know much about those kind of bikes. I like sporty I have a NH,
but comfort is my top priority as I age. The Goldwings would be really big
in my garage, and I don't see many used available around here. I came
close to buying a Goldwing about 8 months ago, at a deceased neighbors yard
sale. I was afraid to make a spot decision, and someone else grabbed it.

Well they have sport as part of the name. Basically they are comfortable
sport bikes, not meant for highway pegs, or sissy bars. I just assumed since
the OP mentioned a concourse he was more performance oriented, or has lower
back pain when riding a feet forward bike.

Thanks for the input. I know very little about the chrome bikes. I am
surprised that no one suggested a shadow Aero or magna or Harley. I will
have to see what's available and what I can afford. When you look at the
reviews of the sport-touring bikes it seems there are no perfect bikes.
Seems like they all need some upgrades or revisions. handle bar risers,
lowering struts, head gasket leaks from overfilling, difficult repairs .or
buzzing engines. You would think that highway pegs and a flip up passenger
back supports would be standard on a sport touring bike. It almost makes
me want to get one of those $500 custom seats for the Nighthawk.

Thanks, Ron

I have a question on motorcycles in general. I have been thinking of
getting a new bike... a Kawasaki Concours. I like their sportyness, but now
I have been reading the Concours has an annoying buzz, highway pegs are very
difficult, they run very hot, and require a boat of upgrades like handlebar
risers, cruse control and stuff. I want a bike I can take a 4 hour trip
without stopping because of road or chain vibration, small tank, and a sore
butt. What bike would you suggest, if your main concern was comfort?
