Thank you all for all of this. It gives me the confidence and
knowledge to go back to my mechanic and get the whole story straight.

@hanghank fantastic advice. That is exactly what I am going to do. I
am going to ask for written documentation that should any carb related
issues occur they're responsible.

I'm going to tell them I want the petcock cleaned and i'll ask about
the fuel filter.
