Yes, you need one wire to go to + voltage and the other to ground. Unless your
new brake light is LED it doesn't matter about polarity. LED only work with
voltage traveling in one direction so if it doesn't work reverse the wires.

Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] How to wire in a trunk brake light on '92 750 NH?

I got a Mutazu trunk with a brake light for my '92 750NH, and I'd like to
wire the brake light into the bike's system. The diagram in the manual
shows Green/Yellow and Brown wires going into the brake lights. Do I hook
into both these wires? There are two leads coming from the trunk brake
light and two separate leads intended to be wired into the bike's
electrical system, with bullet connectors to hook them together when the
trunk is installed.

I'd really like to get this done, because the existing tail light isn't as
noticeable with the trunk installed.
