Hello All,
Well guess what - ye olde (not so) Humble moderator should
really really take a good look at things before freaking completely out.
After $868 - apparently it was too much effort to hook up the
crank case breather hose to the airbox.
Yes ladies and gentlemen - that was the source of the burning
oil that the shop couldn't find.
Oh and the non-working fuel gauge? Well it helps when you hook
up the vacuum line to that as well. (Which as soon as I find where it goes,
I will)
And the geniuses couldn't find the problem with my tach either
- I did - I took the cable off when it no longer worked :-)
The biggest problem I can confirm so far is that the idle is
set way high - I think the mechanic was used to either weed whackers or 600
cc sportbikes (is there a difference?) or was totally tach dependent since
the idle is around 2000 rpm. Before anyone asks - yes - I adjusted the idle
screw on the carbs - its all the way down - I've got to pull the tank back
off and adjust the throttle adjustment - its not allowing the throttles to
close all the way.
Ironically - no choke needs to be used when it starts that
way.... but its unrideable at speeds under 15 MPH - won't idle down that
far.
            False alarm folks!
            -Joey
