Oh, you shouldn't have separated them from the air box. Pull the carbs back 
out. Fit the boots back on the air box and use some silicone to ensure they 
don't leak air, let sit overnight for the silicone to set. Then do as Kyle 
said, mount the carbs to the intake boots, then use a ratchet strap to pull the 
air box forward and a pry bar to maneuver it in place.

The air box boots (the things that go from 2 to 1) went on with no problem. 
The trouble is getting the boots on the air box.
