My dear Nighthawk was viciously attacked by a VW Jetta in October. Sadly, it didn't make it... It will live on in pieces.
In short, a car turned in front of me and I T-boned them at 35 mph. The forks and frame are bent and the headlight and gauges are smashed. I bought the bike 3 years ago with 14,000 miles, and it now has 61,000 miles. The bike started and ran great. It was very reliable and I rode it almost every day since I've owned it. Carbs never caused any drama. I used full synthetic oil, changed with a filter every 3k - 4k miles. The only issue was the cam chain rattle at 3k rpm. A video is worth a thousand pictures… Here’s a link to a video of me riding and talking about the bike (before the crash). Skip to 1:50 where I stop riding and get off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yCJsPHf5Tc. Tank, $125: good shape, 2 small dents on right side. (Still earned compliments) Some light rust inside (has not increased since I've owned it) Petcock, $50: works perfect - clean filters K&N air filter, $30: always had a few creased pleats - works fine - will clean before shipping and oil if desired. Seat, $70, recovered w/ saddleman cover - no holes/ tears - has years to go - decent foam - high density block replaced with new rebonded foam Exhaust, $125: right side is very good - left side has a dent from the center-stand tang. otherwise in good shape. Engine, make offer: 61k - undamaged - ran great - did not burn oil - cam chain rattle at 3k rpm - oil drain threads need a timesert. (workable as-is using teflon tape) Carbs, $110: good shape - clean inside and out. Slides, throttles, chokes, and floats all move freely and smoothly. No damaged parts. I kept them synced and the bleed screws in matching positions. (limiter caps were removed by previous owner) Brake calipers, $30 each: undamaged - rebuilt about 10k ago - new piston seals/ wipers/ caliper float seals Brake master cylinder, $35: new piston/ seals in master cylinder (fluid sighting window is cloudy) Clutch master cylinder, $35: works great - rebuilt 10k ago Clutch slave cylinder, $25: works fine - rebuilt 2 years ago Electrical: everything worked as it should. Some wire harnesses around the headlight were damaged in crash (pm me for details). Main wire harness is undamaged, unmodified and in good shape. Hand controls, $30 each: undamaged and work fine. Ignition switch, $?: lock cylinder works great – electrical contacts missing and back cover broken. Donor switch ordered. Fork lock works. Stator coil, $30: work fine – wiring / plug in good shape Side covers, $35 each: look good and have all prongs - minor cracks in aft tabs Tail cowl + trim, $50: in decent shape - no cracks - a few light scratches - aluminum rails are also in decent shape. Grabrail has two 3/8 inch holes from mounting a rack. Taillight, $30: corner flange on left side of lens is broken - otherwise good shape. Swing arm/ Shaft drive, (tell me what parts you need and make offer): good shape no problems I also have a shop-stained, but complete and readable Clymer repair manual. ($15 shipped) I have the whole bike right now. I probably have anything else that's not listed here. I'll try to update this list as things go. Most of these prices are negotiable and I may be willing to split up / combine stuff. Thanks everyone. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. To post to this group, send email to [email protected].
