      Hi Javier,

I had considered an early VF750 but I thought it was too big, top heavy and

the pipes just didn't look right. The newer VF750 Custom, I would love to

play around with, but it is out of my league financially.

Yes, I also believe it would make a great cafe racer, but I am looking
for

a donor bike that is good around town and also has the ability to be

reasonably enjoyable on that 1400 mile trip back from my holidays in the

sun, therefore the choice of engine is extremely thingmybob.

That and some people might consider the cruiser is just a suppressed

version of the chopper style, and I'll be be one of them. I will have more

work to do with a standard bike. I hope I'm not going to sound too

outlandish when I write this: The motor is the heart and soul of the bike,

get that wrong and all the money in the world is not going to turn that

project into something that feels right.

      Hi Allen,

Funnily enough, I still feel and itch when I see an Maxim at the right

price (because of the motor), but there is nothing in the world that would

incite me to build a bike with wheels that look like an advert for the

Tylight Zone and the Maxim's overall look a bit spodgy.

I'm pretty much sold on a DOHC CB650, although the problem with battery

charging, I would like to get to the bottom of.

Thanks

JN

I think that Honda got one hard to beat custom bike in the VF750C second

series, and I would love to test one. But somehow I think it is like

comparing Apples against Wallnuts (Harleys), which has the sweetest taste

against which has the hardest skin, and somehow again leads me back to the

motor being the heart and soul of the bike. As I read somewhere else on

this site, "I just felt these things put together would be the ideal bike

for me".

Thanks for the thoughts.
