Dennis,
It's not any easier at 56. I forget to put my side stand down & proceeded to
get off. Luckily I did this in front my 1988 Mercury and it stopped the fall. I
had to get 19 & 23 year old boys to help me right it.

Thank you,

Ross

Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] Gravity working fine in New Zealand

Oops. Took my CB700 to coffee this morning and parked on the side of the
building with the bike parallel with the wall. When I stepped off the bike, my
back was close to the wall.

I decided to put it up on the center stand, which I usually do. I’m not sure
why but, maybe because the wall was close behind me, I didn’t exert the full
effort to rock the bike up onto the center stand. It was close … but not
quite. And so it rocked down again.

At that point, I discovered that the ground had a slight slope away from me
and, in addition to the bike rocking forward as it came down, it was also
moving away from me; which was bad.

I grabbed it but the wall was close behind and I’m sure you can see the scene.
I’m holding on and it is slowly but surely getting away from me. And,
eventually, it took me to the ground with it; though I did my best to soften
the fall.

Luckily, no one saw this bright maneuver.

I walked around and then attempted to lift the bike up again. Mmmm. I’m not
as strong as 66 as I once was and it was not happening until I recalled
something I read here on the Nighthawks group about turning your back to it and
using your legs to drive the lift. That worked, but barely.

Total damage done was a bent front brake lever and a temporary limp acquired by
my male ego.

Moral of the story? When you put it on the center stand, commit to the move
and make it happen with energy to spare. And being close to a wall, as I was,
is not a good thing.

I sign myself a bit humbler in New Zealand,

Dennis
