Is this his first bike? I don't know that I'd recommend a big V-twin
cruiser as a first bike, if only because the rake and such make it harder
to learn basic skills. Can't really say bad things about the weight or the
power, my CB750 was the same weight and more power (though not much).

The price isn't bad, especially for a Harley. Looks pretty rough, going to
take some elbow grease to clean that up and get it looking good. Sportster
is basically the only Harley I'd ever own (other than the XR "cafe" type
bike, of course). If it's what he wants and he's willing to do the work, I
wouldn't discourage him.

At least check it out, hear it run, if possible ride it at least a little
(You could/should if he doesn't have a license yet) to make sure it shifts
smoothly and runs decently. If it doesn't knock an appropriate amount off
the price.
