Your exhaust is going to get that hot for really only one of two reasons.
Either your timing is massively off and you're burning significant fuel in
the pipes, or one/both cylinders are so lean that the the fuel isn't doing
any charge cooling.

Pull your plugs and inspect them. Be prepared to pull carburetors and clean
them or adjust them. Check your pilots, check your idle stop setting.
