The bead is a function of the tire sealing to the wheel. The liquid is a lubricant to get the tire on or off the wheel easier.
The higher and thinner the sidewall the easier it is to mount. Dual sport and 80-90 series tires like on the NH are no problem. Low profile sport bike tires are a pain without a machine. There is a long thread on ADV Rider about how to mount your own tires that is great. I don't post here and don't know if this is kosher or not, but here is a link to the thread: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50717 Follow the directions are you'll have no trouble. Pay particular attention to what he says about "if it's hard to do you're doing it wrong". Also, the warm months are your friend! take the wheel off the morning you plan to change them and lay the wheel with old tire and the new tire in the sun. Get them as hot as possible. Flexible is good when it comes to changing tires. If you've done a lawn tractor tire, the bike tire isn't much different. Bigger (obviously) and a smaller sidewall but you can do it. Good luck.
