Kyle's right, and that seems the most likely point of failure. I should note that there is a special box that is a part of the braking system according to my wiring diagram. It apparently is to alert you via a light in the dash if there is an issue with the brake light. It appears that it has two connectors on it, however I have no idea where it is located on the bike. from what I'm seeing the brake switches get their power on a Green/White wire and send it to this box over a Green/Yellow wire. then this box is what connects to the tail light housing using Dark Green for ground, Brown for running light power, and Green/Yellow for Brake light power. I'd locate and check that box for proper operation after replacing the bulb.
