+1 on what Allen says. I have rebuilt both the master cylinder and caliper on a bike only to finally find that the 30-year-old brake lines were the problem. They can balloon on you and it is undetectable to the eye. BTW, brake lines have the production date right on them, so you can easily see how old they are.
