Bryan, thanks for the perspective, it is appreciated. I can do (and on cars 
do) normal maintenance/service work, fluids, brakes, chain and sprockets 
(on a bike that has them, lol) and the like. But, I would never take on a 
$300 project bike that's been parked for 5 years (but started right before 
that) because I would definitely be way out of my league… and it would not 
be a project that I would likely enjoy… so, yeh, I need to think long and 
hard about a 30 year old bike.

And, Allen, I agree. Besides the looks of the Nighthawk (they were new when 
I was in college), the low maintenance features of the bike are really 
appealing. But, I'm not looking for a commuter bike, but a pure pleasure 
bike… with every excuse to ride rather than drive whenever possible.
