I'm in the same boat and googled how to remove the needle. One guy
mentioned the "fork" method where you slide the tines around the shaft then
gently pry, this method worked great on a spare tachometer that I have but
so far hasn't worked on the speedo. The other method is where you hold the
back of the shaft with vice grips and then try and twist it off, I haven't
had luck with this yet either, but again I'm nervous about applying too
much pressure and breaking it worse than it is. I still have both pieces of
the needle so what I may do is just glue it back together in place and
maybe put some skinny plastic bits underneath it to reinforce it from
behind.
