Sorry, Sean, but I don't know diddly about the ST1100.  But I DO know a little 
about wiring.  If it is blowing the fuse, your ground wire is usually not the 
problem.  If the ground wire comes loose, the fan will simply stop working 
since it does not have a complete circuit.  The HOT wire is grounded (shorting) 
somewhere.  You have ruled out the switch.  If it is not too hard, replace the 
wiring and try again, but I suspect the fan motor is internally shorting.  If 
the fuse does not blow immediately, then I would guess the fan motor is trying 
to turn, but won't, heating up, and popping the fuse.  If it is immediate, the 
bad motor or wiring.  Start with the easy one, then move along.
