Glenn, I haven't done it on mine, although it also has been leaking for a while, but it is such a tiny amount that it never even make it to the ground. But I can answer some of the questions:
1. Those are just plastic plugs in the bolts, right? Is there a clean way > of getting them out without damaging them? > Yes, those are rubber covers. Just carefully remove them with a tiny screw driver, like one of those used for repairing glasses if you have one. > 2. If I re-torque the bolts, how do I know when I've got it right? I just > looked at the manual, chapter seven, and it doesn't seem to mention > anything about torque. It's all matter-of-fact, as in removal order: bolts, > sealing washer, bolts, gasket. That's about it. > I am surprised it doesn't say. I don't have mine on hand, but it can't be too much. I wouldn't do more than a quarter turn after hand-tied. > 3. Any recommendations on suppliers, brands, etc? > Don't know. > 4. Any dressing for the new gasket, upper side and lower? > Just apply some oil with your fingers. Make sure both surfaces in the cover and in the engine are well cleaned. > 5. How do I know how much torque I've got on an allen wrench, anyway? > You will need a small torque wrench with a allen head. > > Anybody done this? For those who don't know me, Ol' Yeller is a '96 750 > Nighthawk. Thanks. > As I said, never done it on the NH, but I did it on a Suzuki gs500 and it wasn't a big deal. Clean the surfaces, don't over tight the screws, and it should be fine. Javier. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
