...what Kyle says! 2 years is enough time to build up enough carbon in the starter to make shorted brushes etc. Especially if that is a typical day for you. Pop it off, blow it out, and put it back on, if you have not done that yet.
I am still half-suspecting that some rebuild kits a have brushes that turn to dust faster. However, any irregularity in the rotor/armature may also account for fast er dusting.
