The 83 550 shares a starter with the 83-86 650 nighthawk. I'm thinking the other models probably aren't compatible. I got a 550 starter in my 650 right now. There's a guy on eBay who sells them for our bikes. I picked mine up for 130.00. After, of course, I spent 30$ to rebuild mine, only to find out my armature was janky and needs to be run through a lathe. If you have even a smudge of mechanical know how you can rebuild them for cheap if your armature is good. Pull the old one off and pull it apart. Keep everything. I mean everything somewhere safe. Pull the armature out and visually inspect the contact points at the tip. It's a copper circle with ridges cut into the copper. Then look up a guide to test the armature with a voltmeter. It's very simple and a rebuild kit should only cost around 30$. Buy a nice one though. Don't get some cheapy off brand rebuild kit. There's tons of vids on YouTube of people rebuilding our exact starter
