Gotcha. Bend is a REALLY pretty area and there are quite a few areas, especially south that I would consider taking in. The SunRiver area south of Bend is very cool.
As for your original question about which route to go from Bridge of the Gods to Bend, I've never taken the two possible routes. But if it were my ride I would go east from the Bridge to Hood River and start south from there. Probably a little slower because of the twisties but I would imagine much more scenic.
