I'm pretty sure it's a dry surface, no wax. And on you tube, I think they 
said to clean it with apple cider vinegar (it cleans everything including 
leather jackets!) to get the sticky off of the old pads. It probably 
wouldn't hurt to clean it with apple cider vinegar anyway to get anything 
foreign off your tank (bugs, tar, etc...)
