I was going to make the same suggestion, but I took a look at the Colorite
website, and they don't even list 1982 on their color search. Somewhere on
that bike, though, is a sticker with the paint codes on it. Many times they
are on the frame under the seat. A list of Honda paint codes can be found
at http://www.vsource.org/VFR-RVF_files/BHondaPaintCodes.htm . Then google
the paint code because Honda sometimes, though not always, recycles their
colors, so that color could have reappeared in another year that IS on
colorite.com.

A word of caution: I recently paid $50 for a rattle can from colorite for
my PC800. The color did not match. It was too light (can't blame it on
paint fade) and it had too much metalflake. If the colors don't match up
against each other at a seam, like the side covers are far from the tank,
the mismatch may not be noticeable.

Paint shops, at least Sherwin-Williams auto paint store, has paint colors
on like a rolodex, so you hold each card against your tank and choose the
one that's closest. I can't remember their minimum purchase for a color,
but you'll have to buy way more than enough for side covers, and it won't
be in a rattle can. I've read on line that some places will put it in a
rattle can, but I've never seen it.

Just 2 days ago I went to a garage about me car, and I showed them a
picture or my PC800 and asked if they would be willing to repaint the rear
end. They said no, saying they had no source for motorcycle colors and old
paint with some fade would be difficult to match. They offered to paint the
whole bike, but not a part.

So there you have it - no easy answer. My advice to myself: If you buy an
old bike that needs paint, buy a black one (though not all "blacks" match,
even).

(Ron, good to see that you're still lurking. Let me know when you want to
take that Wing for a spin.)
