My father and I both have 1986 700Ss that appear to be leaking around the
shifter.
I would like to confirm the procedure for replacing the shifter seal.
1...Drain engine oil
2...Pull the plastic cover
3...Pull linkage off the shifter shaft
4...Pull the shift shaft (does it come out easily, is it keyed?)
5...Thread a bolt into the old seal and remove old seal
6...Insert new seal using a socket and hammer to tap into place
7...Reverse disassembly steps.

What am I missing? Anything to be wary of?
Thanks in advance for your insight!
