According to the schematic the tank has a sending unit, I assume it has
just a variable resister in it that increase or decreases as the amount of
fuel is being used. That resistance is transmitted through to wires that go
through the harness. If you take a DVM ( Digital Volt Ohm Meter) and set it
to read Ohm's Or resistance and move the sensor arm up and down after you
remove it. You should see a change in the resistance. That means its
working. If you are having issues with that and it appears to be all rusted
or crudded up. Replace the sending unit in the tank and remember to order a
new O ring seal to put it back in with. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT NOT ONLY GAS
is explosive but the FUMES are also. So be careful and do this away from
Flames, in an open space.
