Sounds like you're not 100% sure that the issue lies with the stator. Pull the plug on the stator, get the bike running, put your multimeter on AC and check each of the 3 leads coming out of the stator for current. Ground the multimeter to the frame. You should be getting like 6 volts coming out of each lead. If you are, it's not the stator at all. I bought one from Ricks one time and never used it; still in my garage. I take it with me on long trips, just in case.
