That really stinks! I hope that's a long time fix! Welcome, I'm a newbie also
with a 1984 700 S I'm restoring. Ride safe.

Hi there!
New to group, I have a 1993 Nighthawk 750 and live in Grand Cayman.  From what
I understand i'm the only one with this bike on the island (small island). One
of the connectors was loose recently and the solenoid plug ended up melting, so
I changed the solenoid and the plug - bought the $10 solenoid from ebay and all
worked well for a few weeks.
Then suddenly when starting the bike the starter motor wouldn't stop - tried to
kill the engine with the switch or turn ignition off but the darn thing kept
turning and turning.  Took me some time to get to the battery and unplug the
terminal there... so it was too late.  My starter motor was completely melted
and shot.
I checked all wiring and the only culprit is that darn solenoid which must have
stuck on the on position, sending current to the starter.
Luckily, a (US) seller on ebay sells bolt-on starter motors, but it cost me
$250 to get the thing.  Life lesson learnt:  don't buy cheap (non US) Ebay
stuff, no matter how small the part.
Ah, the joys of owning an older bike!
