Greetings all - I have a problem and could use some more experienced advice on where my issue might be.
A few months back, my 1993 750 nighthawk's electrical stopped working. I traced the issue to a melted starter solenoid plug (the 4 wire plug that plugs into the solenoid). I read up and saw this happened to someone on a forum and was due to a bad connection at the plug drawing more amperage. Since the 4 wire plug had been loose-ish, I figured this made sense. I replaced the solenoid, the plug and went on my merry way. 1 month later, I go to start my bike and there's no electrical again. Of course I check the ignition switch, the battery, fuses, all checks out. Then I check the solenoid and sure enough the 4 wire plug is melted again. What could be the issue here? I know one of the 4 wires is an always-live wire that leads to the ignition switch, but i'm not sure where the other 3 wires go. What could be causing this melting at the plug? bad alternator? Bad voltage regulator? I've check battery terminals and they are clean, checked the ground to engine and that's clean, starter/ignition switches appear to work well too. battery is well charged. The melting appears to happen when I am driving the bike. I've ordered a new solenoid and plug, but i'm afraid this issue will happen again.
